The EEA General Assembly

The General Assembly of the European Evangelical Alliance is a place to connect and to be equipped. It is a platform where general secretaries of National Evangelical Alliances (NEAs), affiliate members and chairs of EEA Hope for Europe networks and their staff members bond, connect, find better synergy of how to support one another and profit from each other.

In addition, the EEA General Assembly is also a place where Christians from all over Europe who feel connected to the Evangelical Movement can make contacts and receive inspiration for their spiritual life and work.

Our Theme for 2023

Bible reflection, reflecting on the mission of the church in Europe, fellowship, sharing from the regions, connecting with EEA, its partners and staff, will be in line with the theme “Liberating Truth – The Power of Discipleship”.

We live in times of post-truth and twisted narratives. Over time, misconceptions have easily filtered into the way we think and see mission. Together, we will be revisiting the Five Marks of Mission as a way to ground ourselves in Truth, while uncovering myths, misconception and fears. Jesus set us free, and brings Liberating Truth to each of his disciples, and to the discipleship of the Church.

Organizational Specifics

The General Assembly is a virtual conference which will be held on Zoom.

The official EEA Members Meeting will take place within the General Assembly (same Zoom link), on the morning of October 7. Only EEA members (National Evangelical Alliances and Affiliate Members) are allowed to vote in the Members Meeting.

Participation in the conference is free of charge, but we would greatly appreciate a donation to help us cover the costs incurred.

Five marks of mission – Five tracks

The Five Marks of Mission set the tone for our discussion, and so the programme will be a organised around five tracks:

Track 1: Proclaiming in Truth (Mark 1: To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom). Keywords: evangelism, preaching the gospel, proclaiming the Kingdom

Track 2: Teaching in Truth (Mark 2: To teach, baptise and nurture new believers). Keywords: discipleship, discipling, teaching, mentoring, coaching, learning

Track 3: Serving in Truth (Mark 3: To respond to human need by loving service). Keywords: compassion, love, care, help

Track 4: Standing Up for Truth (Mark 4: To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation). Keywords: justice, transformation of society, socio-political, peace & reconciliation, society, politics

Track 5: Integral Truth (Mark 5: To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth). Keywords: stewardship, creation (care), environment, cosmos

Our GA takes on the format of a consultation: each participant chooses one of these tracks/marks when making his or her registration and will be working on that topic with the same group, during the conference.

After an in-depth introduction into all five marks of mission in the opening keynote at the beginning of the General Assembly, the facilitated groups will give all participants a chance to share and discuss respective best practices from their contexts. The intended outcomes of the five tracks are: (1) gaining a wider understanding across different contexts, (2) sharing of material and experiences and (3) agreeing on various forms of cooperation going forward.
