On Monday morning, February 6^th, at 4:17am, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in southeast Turkey and northern Syria. At least ten cities suffered serious damage, buildings were destroyed and thousands of casualties reported. The Turkish Evangelical Alliance (TeK) responded immediately to the crisis, and the EEA supported its member, by sharing the messages, updates, prayer requests and donation appeals brought by TeK.

Since February 2023, the EEA channelled donations to support the Turkish Evangelical Alliance (TeK). Funds went to the Turkish NGO, First Hope Association, which responded with relief work from the first day of the earthquake. Over 35.000 € have been raised since then and below you can read a short report of this fundraising project.

“We, the Protestant Churches of Turkey, would like to thank you for standing by Turkey and the Turkish Church. This was a very hard time, the February earthquake in Turkey.  Through you and people, churches and organizations like you who have God’s heart of love and care, the Church in Turkey has served with love and zeal in the earthquake region to the victims. Through your prayers and support,  the church in Turkey has won the appreciation of both official and non-official people and organizations. Most importantly, the church in Turkey served as a messenger of God’s love.

Our sincere and heartfelt thanks to you, our dear brothers and sisters.

We bring you a short message from the Board of TeK (Association of Protestant Churches, or Turkish Evangelical Alliance) and an appeal to your prayers and donations:

“Dear brothers and sisters,

We are all experiencing a deep shock after the disastrous earthquake. Although as yet we do not know the full extent of the loss and damage it is clear that we are facing a very serious and difficult situation. 

Many churches and believers in the earthquake zone are working hard to help victims while at the same time struggling with their own difficulties and pain. Let us not neglect to support them with our prayers.

If brothers and sisters in neighbouring provinces would like to open their homes temporarily to house guests then they should speak to their own church leaders who can contact pastors and others working in the affected region… You can make donations to the bank account numbers listed below.

The funds collected will be used solely for the earthquake victims in the region and at the end of the period a report will be presented.

May the Lord have mercy on us all. May the Holy Spirit protect us and lead us.”

The European Evangelical Alliance is channeling donations to support the Turkish Evangelical Alliance (TeK). Funds will go to the Turkish NGO, First Hope Association, which is already working in relief efforts (for more details, read our Website post).
