EDITOTORIAL

Thomas BucherWhere does my help come from?

Surrounded by mountains up to almost 4’000 meters. That is my inspiring setting as I am writing this editorial. This reminds me of Psalm 121: I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.

As we are moving towards Good Friday and Easter we could also read this verses: I lift up my eyes to the cross. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the crucified and resurrected Jesus who has set everything right in heaven and on earth as his father has planned it to be.

These are bold statements which will be repeated during Easter millions of times all over the world. And they will be met with various responses. Hopefully often with wonder and curiosity. But oftentimes they will be ignored or in many cases opposed. Many of our brothers and sisters around the globe even experience physical persecution because they state this.

The Easter message is a queer message. If Jesus would have only died he might still have entered history as a famous person. But the bible tells us that he has been resurrected from the dead and through this has changed the course of history. That’s the story which is a scandal to many and the hope for a great number of people.

Ultimately this story cannot be explained but only experienced. Through this Easter celebration we are called to experience once more God’s glorious work through Jesus for us. And as God’s personnel on the ground to pass on this experience.

We have good reasons to look up to the mountains and we have good reasons to lift our eyes to the cross and to the resurrected Jesus. Let us do this with the expectation that this is our strength! Strength from God! Strength and hope for this world!

May you enjoy Easter in special ways and be what you receive to many.
