Ever since Islam came into being in the 7^th century AD Christians have had to find a way to relate to Islam as a new religion that began to spread around the world and to relate to Muslims as people that are strongly committed to one God, but also strongly rejecting Jesus being the Son of God.

Initially Christians considered Islam as a Christian sect, because of the apparent similarities between the two religions, but gradually they realized the differences were profound and Christians begin to see Islam as a challenge to the Christian faith.  Very early after the death of Muhammed, Christians began to interact with Muslims, sometimes with words, but alas, sometimes also with the sword.

While initially the relationships between Christianity and Islam took place in the Middle East and was limited to church leaders, but nowadays we find Muslims throughout the world and often also living in our countries, cities and streets.

Many Christians find it hard to know how to best relate to Muslims and how to speak to them about Jesus Christ.

In this course Approaches to Islam I want to help Christians develop their approach to Islam and Muslims. In order to do this, it helps to learn from the voices of the people, followers of Christ who have spend their lives in reaching out to Muslims with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We look at several of them and seek to learn lessons from their life and ministry.

Christians who are passionate about sharing Jesus with Muslims have done so in a variety of ways. In this course we will look and evaluate several of such approaches. These are all tools that God has used to bring Muslims to Himself, but not all tools can be used by all Christians in all circumstances and for all Muslims.

The purpose of the course Approaches to Islam to adopt an approach to Islam and to Muslims that fits the kind of person you are and the kind of ministry situation you are in and what is consistent both to the spirit and truth of God found in the Bible.

I hope that within this toolbox you’ll find a tool that God wants you to use to see your Muslim friends come to faith in Him.
