12th November is Orphan Sunday

A Focus on Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children

On the 12th of November, Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) is inviting European churches to focus their prayer and attention on the unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and youth who have arrived in Europe. CAFO unites organizations and church members around the globe on behalf of vulnerable children. Together with World Without Orphans, the Refugee Highway Partnership and the Mobilised for Unaccompanied Minors Network, they are providing materials focused around unaccompanied asylum-seeking youth in Europe. Resources include a prayer initiative, bible study and serving guide as well as postcards and flyers to engage your community.

With more than 170,000 of these youth applying for asylum since 2015, there is much need and opportunity for the Church to be a welcoming community. While these children may not immediately come to mind when we think of orphans, CAFO invites us to consider how God may see them as such and invite our church into prayer and action on their behalf. Learn more about this view of the unaccompanied minor as an orphan in a recent CAFO blog, “The Biblical Orphan Comes to Us in Many Forms”.
