On Wednesday evening, 5 October 2022, long-time EEA General Secretary Thomas Bucher (Switzerland) officially handed over the baton to the new leadership duo of Connie Main Duarte (Portugal) and Jan Wessels (Netherlands).
On 4-8 October 2022, the HOPE FOR EUROPE 2022 Experience took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The special gathering, hosted by the European Evangelical Alliance normally takes place every three years (last in Tallinn, Estonia in 2018, Covid resulted in a postponement of one year) and convenes hundreds of evangelical leaders from across Europe to share strategies, best practices and valuable insights.

In September 2021, the decision was made to focus our EEA communications work in the first half of 2022 on the theme “East meets West – West meets East”. The aim was to create a platform for dialogue with our newsletters, particularly between Western and Eastern Europe, where we could hear one another, learn from each other and celebrate that together we are the Body of Christ in Europe.Read more
When my parents and I came to Germany in 1976, I had no idea how much coming from Russia would shape my life and my identity. In Russia, we were called fascists and Germans. Here in Germany, I heard in the schoolyard: “Those are the Russians!”. The few Russian-German children in elementary school stood out because of their language, clothing, and behavior. We spoke German with an accent and made many mistakes.Read more
Over the first six months of 2022, the overarching communication theme of the European Evangelical Alliance will be “East meets West – West meets East”. Europe is a diverse continent with many cultural backgrounds and perspectives. The Alliance Week of Prayer already took place in the Czech Republic in the interwar period and even survived the communist regime. This prayer initiative was one of the few occasions when Christians of different denominations would meet and start the New Year together in prayer.Read more

During a brainstorming meeting we had with some of the EEA staff members I, Jan, spoke about an image that had I had been working on in my mind and heart.
