The Italian EA celebrates its Jubilee anniversary of faithful service and ministry
Inspired by the first Lausanne Conference in 1974, the Italian participants returned home and formed the Italian Evangelical Alliance to bring unity and a joint effort for spreading the Gospel to their nation. It was a time of great rejoicing as churches and denominations joined together and the Alliance was born.
Fast forward to May 2024, and the Italian Alliance is no longer a small group of churches and leaders, but a dynamic group of churches, individuals, evangelical organizations, Bible Schools, and denominations. This became clear when, on Saturday, May 11th 2024, an anniversary celebration was held in Rome to look back on the past five decades of God’s work through the Italian Alliance. It was beautiful to also see a diaspora movement being integrated into fellowship as well.
Jim Memory, Usha Reifsnider and Lindsay Brown from Lausanne as well as Julia Doxat-Purser, Jan Wessels (who was unable to attend) and Connie Duarte from the EEA were invited to speak about the state of the gospel in Europe (Jim and Connie); Challenges of Religious Freedom in Today’s Europe: An Evangelical Approach (Usha and Julia) and a reminder of the importance of the Lausanne documents and their impact even today (Lindsay Brown).
Time around the table, listening and participating, observing the general assembly, and seeing the joy as new members were voted in were all highlights of this very special celebration. There was a sense of thankfulness for what God had done over the last 50 years and a deep sense of hope and enthusiasm for what God will do in the next 50 years. Congratulations to the Italian EA.
